Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid Surgery in Manhattan, NYC
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, can correct the look of saggy, puffy eyelids to help give your eyes a more youthful appearance and enhance your natural beauty. Performed in our convenient Manhattan surgical center, eyelid surgery by board-certified Manhattan plastic surgeon and general surgeon Richard W. Swift, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S. can be a great way to highlight and accentuate your eyes.

What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery uses the latest advances in technology and cosmetic surgery to reduce the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and bags under the eyes to give your eyes a livelier, youthful look. It is not designed to affect the brow or reduce the look of crow’s feet. In these cases, a brow lift may be more appropriate.

Benefits of Eyelid Surgery
Many people who have chosen to undergo eyelid surgery tell us that as a result, they feel the following benefits:

  • More refreshed and rested – not tired or sad-looking
  • Younger and more vibrant
  • Greater self-esteem and improved self-image

Eyelid Surgery Before and After
We invite you to browse our extensive catalog of cosmetic surgeries and treatments to see the types of results Dr. Swift has obtained for his patients. Keep in mind that each individual is different and that you’ll learn more about the outcome you can expect from your specific surgery or treatment at your consultation with Dr. Swift.

Preparing for Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure that uses local anesthesia and IV sedation. It can take less than 45 minutes in some cases. For upper eyelid blepharoplasty, Dr. Swift will make an incision in the natural creases of your upper eyelids. For lower eyelid blepharoplasty, the incisions will be below the eyelash line. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin and muscles are tightened to help reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles. You should not apply eyeliner or mascara or wear contact lenses on the day of your eyelid surgery.

Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Your eyelids will feel tight and swollen and look bruised for several weeks after surgery. You will need to use eye drops to help reduce inflammation and should refrain from wearing contact lenses for at least two weeks. You can use cold compresses to help reduce swelling and discomfort. You should be able to return to work after 10 days and resume your normal daily tasks after 3-5 days. Full results from blepharoplasty will be visible around 1-2 months after the surgery.

Is Eyelid Surgery Right for Me?
If you are worried about fine lines and wrinkles around your eyelids or puffy, sagging eyes are causing you to look sad or tired all the time, you may be an ideal candidate for eyelid surgery. Dr. Swift will personally evaluate you as a blepharoplasty candidate during your initial consultation.

How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost?
Costs for eyelid surgery will vary depending on the extent of surgery or the number of treatments needed to achieve your desired result. Most insurance plans do not cover plastic surgery or specific cosmetic treatments. Dr. Swift accepts payment via cash, check, or credit card, as well as Prosper Healthcare Lending as a financing option.
