Inverted Nipple Correction in Manhattan, NYC
Do you feel self-conscious about the size and shape of your nipples? One common problem for many women is an inverted nipple – where the nipple doesn’t protrude from the areola as it should. Board-certified Manhattan plastic surgeon and general surgeon Richard W. Swift, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S. can help correct this defect and restore a more natural appearance.
What Is Inverted Nipple Correction?
In some cases, usually due to congenital defects, the nipple does not protrude from the areola as in a normal breast. The nipple may appear “flat.” This is referred to as an inverted nipple. Correcting this issue is a simple, outpatient procedure.

Inverted Nipple Correction Before and After
We invite you to browse our extensive catalog of cosmetic surgeries and treatments to see the types of results Dr. Swift has obtained for his patients. Keep in mind that each individual is different and that you’ll learn more about the outcome you can expect from your specific surgery or treatment at your consultation with Dr. Swift.
How Is Inverted Nipple Correction Performed?
A nipple inversion is corrected under anesthesia. Depending on your unique situation, the ducts responsible for breastfeeding may need to be severed, which may lead to an inability to breastfeed. In other cases, they can remain intact. More details will be made available to you at your surgical consultation. With regard to the actual procedure, a small incision will be made under the nipple, and the nipple will be lifted and stitched into a protruding position so it appears more natural. It’s also possible to combine nipple correction with other breast augmentation such as breast lifts, enlargement, reduction, and more.
Preparing for Inverted Nipple Correction
To help improve your body’s natural healing process, you should ideally stop or refrain from smoking for at least two weeks prior to your surgery and one week afterward. You should refrain from drinking alcohol at least one week before surgery. You may also be advised to stop taking specific medications (such as aspirin) or herbal supplements as these may increase the risk of bleeding. For women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, you may wish to complete this process before electing to have an inverted nipple correction done as the milk ducts may need to be severed to correct the issue.
Inverted Nipple Correction Recovery
Stitches are removed after approximately four days, and you may experience some swelling or discomfort which can be treated with pain relievers. You will be able to go home the same day.
Is Inverted Nipple Correction Right for Me?
If you are concerned about a flat or inverted nipple and want a more natural look for yourself, you may be a good candidate for inverted nipple correction. Women who undergo inverted nipple correction experience the best results when they have a realistic expectation of the outcome and do it for themselves, rather than under the pressure from someone else.
How Much Does Inverted Nipple Correction Cost?
Costs for your inverted nipple correction treatment will vary depending on the extent of surgery or the number of treatments needed to achieve your desired result. Most insurance plans do not cover plastic surgery or specific cosmetic treatments. Dr. Swift accepts payment via cash, check, or credit card, as well as Prosper Healthcare Lending as a financing option.
